“‘Real isn’t how you are made,’ said the Skin Horse. ‘It’s a thing that happens to you…’
‘Does it hurt?’ asked the Rabbit.
‘Sometimes,’ said the Skin Horse, for he was always truthful. ‘When you are Real, you don’t mind being hurt…It doesn’t happen all at once,’ said the Skin Horse. ‘You become. It takes a long time. That’s why it doesn’t often happen to people who break easily, or have sharp edges, or who have to be carefully kept. Generally, by the time you are Real, most of your hair has been loved off, and your eyes drop out and you get loose in the joints and very shabby. But these things don’t matter at all, because once you are Real you can’t be ugly, except to people who don’t understand.’ ” -Margery Williams, The Velveteen Rabbit
I love this story.
When I was a younger woman, my mother gave me a copy of this book and told me that her greatest prayer for me was that I would become Real.
I took that to heart.
Mommy, I miss you…*smiles*
And guess what?
I’m real.

Yes ma’am, a refernce to the challenges of self worth and a resuce with unending love. Emotions that balance the rollercoaster can only come from people we adore. I can’t imagine ever tiring of recieving warmth.

I love that story. Yes, you are real and yes, you are beautiful. What a wonderful gift your mother gave to you.
I adored my mother and it was indeed one of the best gifts she ever gave me. She was a very, very wise lady. She was a counselor and helped many people understand these lessons. I’m a lucky woman to have had her example of how to be a good woman.*smiles* Thank you Alice. I like to think I’m looking in the mirror when I speak to you. ((hugs))

My copy had fuzzy on the cover too and he was one of the best characters in the book. Endearing. *smiles* Good to hear from you friend. ((hugs))
