I read this post…and simply had to write my own scenario:
I hear someone knocking at the door. I never rush to the door. Its nearly always someone soliciting, which I’m in no rush to experience. Often if I mosey long enough they give up and go away and I don’t even have to deal with them, just get a little fresh air by checking for the mail.
I get to the door, all frumpy in my writing mode clothes. Fashion plate I am not when I’m writing. The pc screen is not that kind of mirror for me. I open it to see a messenger who is too courteous to act impatient. He hands me a clip board to sign for a brown paper covered, rectangular package, about the size of a gift box used for several dress shirts; which I sign for as required. He hands me my package before smiling and wishing me a good day. Absently, I answer him in kind and close the door, parking my frumpy butt on my comfy armchair to look at the address on the box. Hmmm. A huge grin spreads all over my body and I rush to rip the brown paper off the box.
Inside is an envelope of one of those beautiful Tree Free cards and written on the envelope is ’Read me first’.
I open the beautiful card and find a short and very meaningful poem followed by several simple directions in a neat scrawl that I don’t recognize as I’ve never seen it before…but I know exactly who this is from because of how its addressed to me; a pet name. My breath catches and I read quickly through it.
Hello my _______,
Please follow these directions:
Next open the blue envelope.
After this, open the small square box.
Finally, you may open the last part of this package.
Love,
Your _________
I pick up an official looking plain blue business size envelop and open it. Inside is a plane ticket and a short note:
_________(my pet name),
You may pack one small carry on besides your purse with the following items:
- a journal
- five pairs of socks
- five pairs of panties
- one small paddle
- some ceremonial items you might want to bring
You may not add anything else to your bag; not even clothing.
Your _____________
I look at the ticket and see that I will be gone 7 days altogether, counting travel time. No clothes? No toiletries? I shrug to myself; can’t take those last with me on the plane anyway, so I may as well buy there. Hmmm….For six days. No clothes except what I fly in. Hmmm…And the flight leaves in less than a week.
Setting the ticket and list aside with a big smile, I pick up the small box to open. Inside is a beautiful hand made talisman pouch that’s small enough to wear as a necklace. Holding it in my hand, I feel its full of love. Really it feels like its a big warm protective hug wrapped around me and it was obviously something that he spent alot of time on. There is a small card inside the box.
“You will wear this.”
Slipping it on, I pick up the last item in the box. Its cloth, it seems, and whatever it is, its contained in a beautiful bag of tissue paper. I untie the lovely green satin ribbons holding it closed. I slowly open the tissue paper and find one of those ankle length, voluminous Mexican peasant skirts with the draw string waist; the kind with the little bells on the strings. This skirt has little silver and blue glass beads on it in a brilliant floral pattern. Its dark blue. It is just barely opaque. I smile to myself thinking how the sun will shine through that….
I turn to the next bit of cloth that was nestled under the skirt. Its one of those equally voluminous long sleeved, peasant blouses that has draw strings at the bodice, arms, and two at the waist. Its a barely there kind of gauzy cotton fabric; only just opaque. My fingers caress the fabric. Though its very gauzy looking, its quite sturdy fabric, as is the skirt. It feels soft and comfy. It has a long waist, all the draw strings ensuring it can cinch to fit any woman, extending down over the hips in a pretty ruffle, I’m sure, once its all tied. And there is embroidery sprinkled sparingly just around the bodice. Red, purple and blue flowers. The shirt is a beautiful lavender blue.
There is yet one more bit of cloth. Its the thickest…made of a worn denim or hemp fabric. I lift it out of the tissue paper and hold it up, the shirt box falling to the floor. Its a sort of over-all skirt. That is to say, it is a pair of worn over-alls that have been converted into a skirt, leaving a deep v in the front and back. That would give ventilation while still being protective. There’s a couple pockets on the bib and some at the hips too; front and back. The skirt is ankle length also. I can see many places that the fabric has been mended and a few places that it hasn’t. Its a serviceable protective covering for the pretty skirt in a harsh environment, I think to myself. Its barely blue, its so faded. I smile at the thoughtfulness of it, wondering who made it.
I find yet another card:
“My __________,
I expect that besides these few items I’ve sent, you will only have comfortable walking shoes or boots, socks, a jacket, a hat and a pair of pretty panties on…nothing else.
Well…except for your glass toy. I expect you to wear it and I’m sure you’ll also be wearing a smile by the time you get here…Which I’ll be so very glad to see.
Your _________
Hell I’m already wearing a smile…! *grins* I’m going hiking for a week. Looking at the beautiful skirt and blouse, I think to myself, “And I’m going to feel pretty doing it.” *winks*

Hello Shannee
I hope your package arrives!
Or perhaps even imagining it so richly feels like it already has?
Beautiful writing.
A hug and a smile to you today.

Smiles and hugs to you also Olivia! It was fun to write something with such detail and yet not write any detail at all about sexual matters…just hint at them. I think that’s what I enjoyed the most about this bit of writing. Thanks for the inspiration. I want to write more of them I think. It was a very fun exercise.
